The Kennel should not only be clean but also smell good, it is very important for the Mastiffs. The comfort the bed offers is not only a requirement but also it should be neat and tidy. It should be taken care that areas around are not wet and also are free from drafts.

There should be enough water available at all times and also the Mastiff should be able the access that exercise area all time during the day.

You should enquire about the feeding schedule the kennel follows; it should be as close as possible to the one that you follow.

Staff should be well educated about the dogs they have. Not only that, they should  know about all the dogs in general and generic care about them. It is not essential that they are experts in the field but are able to show love and affection as you do, so that they can take good care.

If your Mastiff is as young as six when he’s boarded at a kennel first time, he will get acclimatized to the environment. It is better to keep him there always when you are out of town. The dog will not be having a “Stranger” feeling when he already is amicable with the staff out there. He will feel at home and will not have to take special attention about himself.

Finally: consider a "trial" boarding. Try keeping the Mastiff in the kennel and check when you are not out of town. If the place doesn’t suit him then you will have to search for other kennels. Also you will have the advantage of testing because you are not worried about your dog when you are out of town when you have checked the thing.
